For your eyes only!

For the last two years, I have been using the same eye shadow: Maybelline New York Expert Wear, Enchanted Forest, to the point that it has now started to break into pieces. It was high time to change my eye makeup!

After browsing the cosmetics section, I decided to try crème eye shadow. I had never used crème eye shadow before, but after starting to use it, I love it. For all you ladies who have dry skin like me, I would highly recommend crème eye shadow versus powder. Crème eye shadow keeps the eye area moistened all through your work day whereas powder shadows can have a drying effect. Also, crème has very light feel on the eyes, whereas powder shadow can sometimes feel heavy on the eyelids.

In terms of color, I bought two different shades. First, I bought Maybelline New York Eye Studio, Blue Freeze. Love the blue shade, and it comes as a trio with two other shades, light blue and grey. Apply the darkest shade to the outer corners of your eyes, add the lightest shade to the inner corners and blend.

If you want to add some more shine to your eyes, use little bit of a light colored powder to the inner corners and a small stroke just below the brow bone. I bought Maybelline New York Expert Wear, Silver Lining powder shadow. It works brilliantly for me! I wear it to work to add a touch of glam but not too much. I would highly recommend the above two products.

The second shade I had in mind was plum or purple. A few days after using my blue crème eye shadow and after many considerations, I decided to go for Revlon Illuminance Crème Shadow, Wild Orchids. As much as it looks cute from outside the box, I am not happy with this product at all. After applying, the purple shade is barely visible. The glittery particles in the cream shows more and it looks like you are wearing a silver shadow rather than purple or mauve. Also, the product does not have as creamy a feel as the Maybelline one. So I do not recommend Revlon crème eye shadows at all.

Last and most important is the brush. I learnt that crème eye shadows need a separate type of brush which is sort of stiff. While searching, look for brushes which have “cream eye shadow brush” written on the package. I bought a Quo brush which was on 40% off at Shoppers Drug Mart … good deal!

This weekend, I am off to L’Oreal warehouse sale which I have planned to visit with my girlfriend. Provided we get a chance to get in amongst the mad rush, I hope to let you guys know of any good finds soon.

On a Spring day ...

Yesterday was a lovely spring day and we accomplished quite a bit in our garden. We pulled out the grass in the small area in front of the house to create flower beds.

This one needs a border.

We intend put some tiles in the back side area near the basement window.

Can't wait to head to the nursery to get some of the beautiful flowering plants!!

Tricks of Nature!

Today morning we got flurries, when we thought March 23rd was the last one of the season. We got six inches of snow that day and that is what they call taking a dump in March. There was an outrage across the city that day in March because just the previous weekend was a beautiful 11 degree Celsius spring day, all the snow had melted and it truly felt like spring. The outrage could be felt at work, on the radio, on TV, during my drive .... everywhere!! We had definitely received a strong blow from Mother Nature.

Strangely, it reminded me of something my friend Cathy had mentioned not too long ago. Why did we love snow so much as kids? What changed as we grew up to be adults? We both agreed that the love faded because now all we focus on is shoveling, the commute, the traffic, the not-so-much fun things about snow. We no longer make snowmen, snow angels, have snowball fights or can do all such fun activities without a few eyebrows being raised. Perhaps that's one of the reasons why people have kids; it gives them a reason to be kids again.

By now, you must be thinking it is high time we leave all the wintry thoughts behind us, but I just couldn't get rid of this one from my head without spilling.

Well, all the snow has melted now, which is good reason to be happy. Only 2 of the 25 pots of Pansy seeds in my "Indoor Greenhouse Kit" have germinated so far. Looks like I will need to sow some more seeds in the rest. Hoping to have at least half of the mini-pots to germinate so that come summer, I can make my flower bed full of pansies this year.

Totally digging it!!!

For those of you who follow American Idol, it is hard not to notice J Lo's outfits. Do you know how hard it is to find pictures of her in the Idol episodes? At least, I could scoop up some below.

Also, her hair never looks the same. It shines through ever episode. Check out her some of tresses.

I totally feel that J Lo has been a great addition to the judges panel on the Idol. All her comments are heartfelt and meaningful as she speaks from real experience!

Spring is in the air .... or is it?

Sunday, March 20th was officially the first day of spring. Last week the temperatures were fabulous ... touching 12 degrees. It truly felt that spring is in the air. But alas, this week we are forecasted to receive a fine layer of frost. Hopefully, the chill will be over soon. I am already dreaming of spring flowers. Tulips and cherry blossoms are my favorite.

I have already started dreaming of what flowers to plant in the small patch in front of my house. I am thinking lilies might be beautiful. Or anything bright in color, grow no more than 6 inches tall, low maintenance and can survive the strong afternoon sun. Any suggestions are welcome. :) However, one thing is for sure. I am definitely getting 2 hanging baskets of petunia, of the variety below, to hang on two sides of my front porch. Ain't those pretty?

Like a Garden in Fantasyland.....

On Tuesday evening, we got some flurries here in Toronto. Apparently, it snowed the whole night. So the next morning, the ground was covered with a white carpet. It was the most amazing sight I have ever seen in my life. Well, most people laughed when they saw my amazement, because it’s only October. It’s already so cold and it’s snowing before Halloween.

But I couldn’t help notice the beauty of nature all around me. Every morning on my drive to work, I pass by a golf course. Next to its entrance is a beautiful red tree and red and orange bushes; well, they have turned into those colors now. On this particular morning, these plants had a fine layer of fluffy snow on them and it looked absolutely amazing. Breath-taking! What can I say; like frosting on a cake! The picture is still so vivid in my memory; I wished that I had brought my camera along with me at that point.

People at work laughed at me when I described it to them. Some found it cute, and some promised to come back in January to find out if I’m still amazed by looking at snow. All I want say now that to me, it looked like a Garden in Fantasyland, and I’m pretty sure I’ll have this picture in my head for a long time. I only wish that I had a real photo.
